History of West Milford Lions
 |
| |
The West Milford Township Lions Club was Chartered on October 24, 1956. During our 50 year history, we have had 5 District Governors for District 16-A and presently have 1 International Director. The West Milford Lions provide 3 scholarships annually, provide cellular phone to senior citizens for 911 calls, provide free eye examinations and glasses for needy school children and senior citizens in our town, provide food baskets at Thanksgiving and Easter to needy families, and support the New Jersey Camp For Blind Children (Camp Marcella).
We presently have 18 dedicated members that provide the much needed services to our community. In 2007-8 the club began amblyopia screening for pre-school and kindergarten students in West Milford. To date over 2000 students have been screened in West Milford, Jefferson, and Butler.
Thanks to the proceeds from Broadway in the Highlands and a grant from the 16-A Lions Chartable Foundation the club has purchased its own Sure Sight Digital Screener. The club has received its 5013C designation and all donations to the club are now tax deductable.
We meet the first and third Wednesdays of the month at Joey's Casa Italiana at 7 P.M.. If you are interested in finding out more about us, please call any of our officers or send us an e-mail at wmlions@yahoo.com.
